Dr. Karla Johanning, CEO and Founder of KJ Scientific Independent Testing Labs participated in the virtual 2-day Texas Marijuana Policy Conference.
Texans for Responsible Marijuana Policy made up of over 20 organizations planned this first-of-its-kind online event. The conference’s goal is to chart a path forward towards more meaningful cannabis policy with the state legislature in January. Foremost, the conference addresses the potential benefits of medical marijuana, reduction of penalties and decriminalization of possession of marijuana. An array of political, legal, and industry leaders conducted workshops and breakout sessions on a wide variety of cannabis topics.
Karla joined in a break out session on “Cannabis Testing in Texas” along with Jax Finkel (Texas Norml), Peter Stout (Houston Forensic Science Center) and Kawai Medeiros (EVIO Labs).
She discussed her experience and challenges testing cannabis and THC in hemp. Karla’s lab is one of a few Texas Department of Agriculture registered labs to test hemp and hemp products manufactured in Texas.
Presenters addressed other subjects such as responsible cannabis consumption, legalization, local enforcement, hemp farming and regulation, hemp research at Texas A&M, and medical marijuana.
Jim Belushi, actor/musician, took part in a breakout session on cooking with cannabis. He grows cannabis on a farm in southern Oregon.
