KJ Scientific’s cryopreserved hepatocytes are prepared with your convenience in mind. We use properly perfused livers from reliable rainbow trout strains. The liver cells are then isolated and cryopreserved at ultra-low temperatures using liquid nitrogen so they can be shipped worldwide for use in metabolism assessments and other studies. We use the latest technology and lab practices to ensure the accuracy and integrity of our products.
Our rainbow trout cryopreserved hepatocytes (RT-HEP) are the most high quality and best in the limited commercially available market. KJ Scientific’s batches, or lots, contain cells from up to eight individual fish to account for variability. They have a high cell viability of >80% and recoveries of up to 50-60% in comparison with our competitors.
Because the cells in our cryopreserved hepatocytes contain all the necessary co-factors for enzyme activity, there is no need to add any to induce a metabolism reaction.
They can be stored and preserved in liquid nitrogen for years and thawed at any time for experimental use. This convenience makes them perfect for long-term and sequential assays.
For the cryopreserved hepatocytes, KJ Scientific only utilizes reliable rainbow trout strains responsibly sourced from certified hatcheries that have been grown in natural environments with no artificial manipulation. These lots are fully characterized for Phase I and Phase II metabolic enzyme activity. We test our lots for pyrene metabolism which is the positive control used in the OECD validation, or Ring Trial, and it is recommended as one of the positive controls to use in the OECD Test Guidelines for test 319A, Determination of In Vitro Intrinsic Clearance Using Rainbow Trout Hepatocytes.
